Nanny's birthday is coming up and DH and I would like to make her feel special. We will definitely be giving her a cash gift, but I'd also like to include something a little more thoughtful/ personal - not huge, but between $50 and $100 in cost. She has been with us less than six months. She is older (over 65) and single. Any suggestions for a birthday gift? Some ideas that I have are: nice sweater, hat and glove combo, nice chocolates,... I am at a loss! Any nannies that received thoughtful gifts from their employers? (I don't really want to do a gift card)

We give consumables. Fancy olive oil, fancy salt, and a gift-card to a fancy grocery store.

Nobody doesn't like gift cards. How about a restaurant gift card? Who doesn't love going out for a nice meal to celebrate - on someone else?

My employers have given me $100 gift cards for the last 3 years.

I actually hate gift cards. Perhaps I am unusual but they are so impersonal and generally to a store or restaurant I don’t frequent. My former employer always gave me amazon gift cards which are the worst and most thought-free.

My favorite gifts are a gorgeous wallet, a leather bag (cosmetic bag) with my name embossed on it, a picture frame with “I love my nanny” on it and a photo of my charge and me, and a bracelet with “thank you for helping me grow” inscribed inside.

I am an older nanny (64) and wouldn’t like a sweater or article of clothing (except the mittens and scarf which is a sweet idea).

Think about what she enjoys. Does she like pampering? Then mani/pedi/massage....

Does she like to cook? Tons of options there

Does she like to read? A subscription to a magazine maybe...

A food of the month club for some period of time. (I've done cheese, ice cream, beer, breakfast, soup of the months... for 3 to 12 months at a time.)

Does she like theater? Tickets to a show

Don't you think you should be more grateful. It's a nice gesture; its not their responsibility. You can find ANYTHING on Amazon. What is your problem?
