Our AP arrived in early July (about 4 months ago) and after a rough start she is pretty awesome! My whole family love her and I am starting to consider extending with her. However there are some logistical issues.
-Her U.S. visa expires in March 2020 (because we matched pretty early and that is when she got her visa)- We are traveling at the end of July 2020 for 3 weeks to Europe and want to take her with us. We had originally planned to go without AP and get our next AP after we get back home in August. - My understanding is that In order to be able to come back in the U.S. in August she needs a new visa Stamp. - How do we do that? Is she supposed to go back to Brazil? Can she extend in Canada? if yes how soon? We are actually traveling with her to Canada for Christmas but this might be too soon to extend. - Also if she need to go to Brazil, can she already get an extension while still in her first year? Like in April 2020? I could give her off around Easter to go get a new Visa, Is there a chance she could get stuck in Brazil? If you have any experience with this please let me help me figure out. I could reach out to our LCC but she usually don't know details regarding visa issues. TIA |
It doesn’t matter if you had a match two months prior her arrival or a year. Her visa starts the day of her arrival to USA. That’s how agencies do that. I don’t believe it. All au pairs get their visa ahead issue date is not the same as expiration date. Check her visa in her passport.. |
If you want to take her out of the country in her second year (late July with an early July arrival) my understanding is that she needs a new visa, not just a visa extention and that she'd have to go out of country for that. I think the recommendation used to be that the AP travels home and applies in their home country... you might want to contact your agency (not your LCC but your area coordinator or the main office) what they currently recommend with the political climate.
I don't know anyone who tackled the application for their second year visa that early but again, your agency should be able to help you. But yes, there is always a chance their visa may be delayed when they travel home or it could be denied which would leave them stuck in their home country. If you weren't planning to take her out of the country she could just extend in country, which would possibly be easier but... |
Maybe you shouldn't speak on what you don't know? I have her visa in front of me and it expire in March 2020. This varies from country to country. She can be an AP till July 2020. If she leaves the country after March, she needs a new visa to get back in. |
Ok. Thanks |
These are not questions for the unvetted public forum. Go to the au pair agency you signed up with and/or immigration and check at the relevant source. |
Your are probably right! I wanted to get some info and figure out what I want to do before I get the agency involved but I understand that might not be possible. |
Figuring out these issues is what we pay the agencies 9-10K+ a year to do. Just ask them for help. |
I just re-did my visa.
She needs to go back to her home country and get a new visa, there is a risk she might get refused and in this case she will be stuck at home. I also think (though I am not sure) that as soon as you request a new visa your former one is canceled so even if she was to do it early, she might not be able to go back. |
This is helpful, thanks! |
BTW can you go for your visa when you already started your second year and you need to get it during your first year before the 2nd starts or it doesn't matter? |
I personally did it after my visa had expired (I am from Western Europe so you might want to check the rules are the same for girls from Brazil)! |
JUST THIS. Don't as us anonymous host families. Ask you LCC! |
You people acts like you don't know how useless some of these LCCs are! |
How about checking with the embassy or consulate instead?! |
