Family Assistant? RSS feed

Hi,

Has anyone had luck with filling a "family assistant" type position? Husband travels for work starting Sunday night - Friday evening, my hours are very demanding (but flexible!) and because kids are in school, thinking an Assistant who could help our household run would really help us get through this next year.

Would love to hear if anyone has made this work. We are based in S. Arlington.

Thanks!

A household manager/assistant is what you are looking for and you will likely have the best luck finding a qualified candidate through an agency.

Yes, exactly what I’m thinking about. Any agency recs for this area?

I don’t live in the area, but from what I’ve gathered White House Nannies is a joke. Where I am, I avoid agencies that require the nanny (me) to pay for their own background checks, therefore I would assume those agencies have less candidates to choose from. Google should be able to give you some accurate reviews on the ones in your area.

We called our nanny a “house manager” and her duties involved all ordering, lesson payment, payment and scheduling lessons, cleaners, dry cleaning deliveries, handyman, etc - pretty much everything except cleaning. She was amazing and even had upcoming birthday party gifts purchased and wrapped. She got the kids ready for school, with lunches made, picked them up from school and took them to practice or lessons or playdayes.

She was a true godsend. I am so sad we lost her (she moved to Los Angeles).

Too little because the car is taxable to her if she can use it on off hours. You should have been paying a minimum of $35/hr!

She never paid tax on the car but certainly would have been worth $35 an hour. I doubt we’ll ever find anyone as good and smart as she is. I miss her everyday.
