Extending with current AP, timing, how does that work? RSS feed

Anonymous
My AP is in her 2nd month, after a rough start things are going well. I might consider extending with her (we are far from that) but I like to plan ahead. Next year will be our last year in the program and I don't feel like doing the on-boarding stuffs again.
Anyway here is my question: AP will be done in June, then we will be taking a one month vacation out of the country with no AP. If we were to get a new AP, they will start in mid August (6 weeks after AP is done). How does that work if we were to extend with current AP? Can she go back to her country to get the 2nd year visa and start with us 6 weeks later or she has to start right after her first year is over? In other words if we want to extend with her, do we need to pay her for the 6 weeks when we are on vacation or can she take a break in her country and officially start with us 6 weeks later?

TIA

Pretty sure she has to get her renewed visa before her first year ends.

I see, which means she can’t have gap between first year and second year, right?

You need to pay her for the six weeks to have her extend with you, but she can simultaneously go home for some vacation time. I'd be slightly worried that once she went home she would be tempted to stay, so be sure to have a candid conversation about this.
