No international license? RSS feed

If the agency does not require internal drivers license and I am asking au pair to get her US license, does she even need the international license?? Seems like not a lot of value added but our last au pair came with one and it may have made her US license paperwork easier. I am not finding clarity with a quick Google.

It allows her to drive for first 30 days in country, and then she has to get a local license.

It might depend on a state but in dc if one has international drivers license you don’t need to take driving exam, just the computer based one.

This is not accurate.... An International License is simply a translation of the home country license - nothing more. In Virginia (the DMV wont even look at it - they just want to home country license). It is helpful it they get stopped so the police can see the English and the original license. You need to talk to your LCC but basically if she gets the License in your state quickly it won't matter but the requirements vary by country of origin as to what the AP will need to do to get the US license. So for an au pair from Mexico arriving with her Mexican license, we could skip the international license altogether and just go to the DMV? Can she drive in the US on her Mexican license for practice sessions until we get to the DMV?

One more tip: it serves as a second form of ID. Yesterday we went to BoA where we opened a new account for AP who just arrived. We used international DL as a second form of ID in addition to passport.

There seems to be confusion about what the International License is. It is a translation of the home country license ... no picture just words in English. The home country license is an ID and is necessary to have for sure. The International license is more of a nice to have. (Former LCC)

The international driver's license is recognized differently in different states. You have to check local laws. https://www.usa.gov/visitors-driving#item-37267

No license = Driving school.

PITA. Do you have time to wait? I don’t.
