Unpaid days/ week off. Yes or no? RSS feed

Hi so I have a quick question
When you work 32-34 hours, I know it’s not full time, but very close
Would you accept days off unpaid or even a whole week off?
Especially if you’ve been working for them for years?
Should I be ok with that or not?

If you can’t afford to not be paid during this time, then no. I was still given PTO. I was working 3 days per week and the family still decided to give me 2 weeks (6 days total of vacation time) and the standard 5 days for sick.

You have to. You are a non-exempt employee who (presumably) did not negotiate and sign a contract, so your only recourse is to find a different job.

Nope. If I ( assuming i am the Nanny) wanted extra time off in addition to agreed vacation time I would expect to take it unpaid If the family wants to give me the time off for their own reasons then they need to pay me.

If you want the time off and it's more than you bargained for, yes. If they don't want you to work but you are ready and willing, then they should pay you.

You can tell them that it will be difficult for you financially but they may not care.

I work 35 guaranteed hours a week. I would not accept unpaid days off.

As an established career nanny, absolutely not. You can sit down with them and negotiate a fair contract. If they are unwilling to do so then I would absolutely start looking for a new position.

You should not accept unpaid weeks off. Your employer takes vacation they get paid. You should get paid too. Do your bills go away because they go on vacation? No.

You’ve posted 3 times now, enough already

No. You get guaranteed hours regardless of how few you work.
