.... we have inclement weather there is always texting back and forth (in the morning), although, our contract states the protocol for inclement weather. Hello, this policy was put into place so we don’t have to go back and forth. The angecy we follow is closed today, so don’t ask me what I want to do! This makes me never want to be flexible with them on days like this which I have done in the past.

Thankful to hear it’s not just happening to me! |
What does your contract say that you follow opm? |
I think you need to say that, OP. Say, "The contract says we do X for snow. In the future, we will do x and we don't need to text about it beforehand." I suspect your nanny has no idea it's bothering you that she asks beforehand. You need to communicate about this. |
I think OP is the nanny not the boss. |
I experience the same dynamic with the same weather inclement clause every single time too. |
Op here. Wow! I thought I was the only one. What pisses me off (excuse my language) is we only do the back & forth when they think I can still commute regardless if the agency is close- that’s not how that works. I did remind them about our contract this morning and have not responded. I just felt taken advantage of this am and I’m always trying to be flexible because of their jobs but not anymore. So I will send them a screen shot of the status (when closed) and go back to bed.
To pp, we follow DC government, which, NEVER closes and that’s why I think they chose to go by this agency (they don’t work for DC government). So when it does close it must not be good outside and I start my commute at 6AM to get there at 7:30AM. |
Yes, I’m the nanny. |
I had to spell out what was in the contract for my boss to leave me alone this morning. |
If they had to go to work, you go to work. That is why they employ you. |
Do you have any idea what a contract is and why they exist? |
Well good thing I don’t work for them! And that’s not what our contract says, so apparently you need to look up the definition as well. |
Clearly they do not. They must’ve had to report to work and mad at the world because of it. |
I can’t imagine this is happening that often because snow days are rare. Restate the contractual policy and shrug it off. |
It’s not often it’s every time we have inclement weather and the agency is closed. Last year we had about 2 snow days and a wind storm that shutdown both federal and dc government. And the year before that we had snow days which is why we created an inclement weather policy in the first place as they were not being consistent with the protocol. It’s quite annoying but thank goodness for a contract to back me up. |
