How to hire summer nanny RSS feed

Does anyone have experience hiring a summer nanny for school-aged kids in NW DC? I would love to know how hard it is to find someone for a full time summer role and when to begin posting for the position. Thanks.

I think a college student would be an ideal candidate for this position.

Maybe you can post an ad on a campus board or in coffee shops around schools.

I would want to start my search around April or May.

Or you could always use Sittercity or Care if you wish.

Good luck!

People interested in being a summer only nanny likely fall into two categories

1) College students
2) teachers

Either way, you should plan that for the last couple weeks of summer, you may have to find alternate care--most colleges start a couple weeks before elementary school, and most teachers will have to go back at least a week before the students do.

Does your neighborhood have a facebook page? Mine does, and I often see college students post that they are looking for babysitting gigs during their breaks, so that is the first place I would look. Also, ask around. You never know if your co-worker, gym buddy, or neighbor knows a student that will be home over the summer and looking for work.
