No Christmas card or bonus RSS feed

I have been a nanny to a 10 month old since she was 3 months old. I bring along my 2 year old and I am pregnant with #2. I am leaving when I have #2, due at the end of April (I will leave whenever it works best for them to find a new nanny and I said I could help with that too). Anyway, I got their daughter a present for Christmas and was a bit disappointed that they had not gotten me a card or anything. I am only part time but even a Starbucks gift card would be nice. I am paid $13 an hour in CA (no driving or dishes etc). So I know they are cheap but...come on. Just feeling unappreciated.

You most likely are unappreciated, OP. But just hang in there until the job ends in a few months - and certainly forget about a parting gift!!

You're part time, you've been there just barely over half a year, AND bring your own kid AND have slowed down because you're pregnant. Why would they give you a bonus?

Agree with no bonus but a card isn't too much to do.

You’ve only been there 7 months and you bring your child with you. Sorry, not a reasonable expectation for a bonus.

I wouldn't have given you a bonus. But absolutely would have given a card and some sort of gift card.

OP, please disregard the Grinches above.

Sure, you are not working full-time, but you should have still received some type of token.....
Of appreciation from your bosses.

I.e., a gift card, an extra $100 added to your paycheck, etc.
Just a little something to let you know that they truly value all that you do.

They seem very cheap, selfish + unappreciative.

$13 is very reasonable given you are bringing your child, who is getting 1/2 the attention and are leaving soon.

You guys are assess! I don’t care if my nanny has only been working for me for 2 months- she takes care of my child! Parents should show appreciation to their nanny regardless of the legnth of their employment- whatever that may be. It just says a lot about you as a person and an employer. I’m sure you contract doesn’t say “nanny must make special projects with the kids for parents bdays, v-day, Xmas day” but they do.

Sorry, op. Hope you had a wonderful holiday and that your next nanny family appreciates you more. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Maybe not a huge bonus but like the Op said, a gift card would have been a nice token. I agree OP, I think its rude.

No one cares what you think is reasonable. Especially when that wasn’t part of the issue.

Agree.

When I had just started work for my employer they gave me a gift card to Starbucks. I was completely surprised as I had only been there for about 2 weeks. Genuinely nice and appreciative ppl show their thanks.

My boss who didn’t give me a bonus asked me to work NYE. HAAAAA!!! Nope, not happening. I’m working for someone else who is paying double. I used to go above and beyond, but now I’m just doing the job I’m paid to do. No extras.

The employers are not cheap. They are paying $13/hour for a two child nanny share. The op has been with them approximately 6-7 months. In many jobs that have bonus structure you would t be eligible after only 6 months.
