Heard AP and friends gossiping about "poor new AP" who got an Android phone instead of an iPhone.
Did AP fall into an incredibly materialistic crowd? Are host families branded as cheap and terrible for not getting AP a brand new iPhone? |
Yes, I had a terrible au pair who thought she was entitled to a brand new iPhone. Also, she couldn't be bothered to answer the Android phone I bought for her (even though I explained to her that it was her WORK phone, and that's why I paid for it). But she sure would have raised holy hell if I *stopped* paying for the Android phone she didn't use (she was always texting on her iPhone she brought from home).
This is why I no longer have an au pair. Too many girls sign up for a free American vacation with expectations of a luxury phone and car, then are *shocked* when they are expected to do work, and not given a more expensive phone than the one I have! It's just ridiculous. |
mine worked 45 hours a week and i gave her a SIM card for her own phone from home. Just where are you finding these entitled girls?? |
Both the Western European girls and the Brazilian girl I hosted brought their own iPhones (one even got the newest upgrade here as soon as it came out). My Bolivian AP did not have a phone but was happy to use my old iPhone. I still have the old iPhone in anticipation of one day holdtong another AP without a phone. No way am I buying a brand new iPhone for AP. |
My last au pair complained about her old Samsung Galaxy phone. How slow it was, how bad the pictures were, etc...
When it died, she "suggested" that I get an iPhone replacement. |
All of my APs over 6 years of hosting have brought their own phones. I provide SIM cards and unlimited data, texts, talk, and no complaints. They might have more to complain about if they don't get to choose their own phone. If you give them an iphone, then they will find something else to complain about. |
