Does anyone find free agent au pairs and do the pre-match thing? We have almost 6 months so thought this might be a good option for us. We want an AP from the UK and pool is pretty tiny with APIA. |
Yes, I did this years ago with a Polish AP. We saved a small amount of the agency fee (had to direct her to an agency to get a legal visa) and avoided the matching hassle. The AP was neither our best nor our worst, but she did her job and lasted the year. In today's world, I don't see much use for the agencies and their huge fees. |
how did you find her? are there good websites or FB groups? I tried to search but couldn't find much... |
You could try this site: https://www.aupairworld.com/en/families (charges a registration fee for premium members). There are others and Facebook groups as well.
To be legal, you will need to redirect your chosen AP to one of the approved US agencies. But it is one way to not feel 100% at the mercy of the agency for access to |
My 2nd AP (from Brazil) was the best friend of my first AP. She had visited us so we knew each other, she knew my toddler daughter, my house, my expectations, my rules. She was totally on board. So i got really lucky. Both of them extended with me. |
What agency did you use after to pre-match? most agencies seems to only give you $300 off. |
You won't save a ton of money because the agency is going to same they still need to do reference checks, facilitate the visa, etc; it is mainly to avoid the stress of ultra competitive matching. |
Sorry *say not same |
Yes, I saved a small amount of money but there was no matching process to speak of
I gave her the money I saved as a Christmas and birthday present. My daughter and have since visited both of them in Brazil. |
