Vent: I need a vacation!

I have been working way too many hours lately and picking up all the slack during a move. I love my charges but I feel so burned out. I have to work the next six days (including today - Sunday) in a house filled with boxes. Then spend all next week traveling with my employers.

I’ll have some time off in December. I want total silence including me not speaking in a dark room for a week!

I am doing a “starvation” this year. Me, Netflix and doing projects around my apartment completely alone.

I hear you! My charge has a birthday and they celebrate Hannukah as well as Christmas. Since I manage the house, gifts for the housekeeper and personal chef and my charges teachers and coaches fall to me. I want a week off the first week my charge is back in half day preschool and before the new baby is born in March. I want quiet - that’s all. Just quiet and a week of nothing in January.

I would approach your bosses and ask if you can look for a way to get a short break sometime before you get back. E.g., hire a sitter to watch the kids during a low-stress part of the day so that you can go get a pedicure. Or have a planned and scheduled half-day off during your travels.

Yep. Add on all the special art project gifts for grandparents and teachers and you have my month as well. Plus I am toilet training twin 22 month old boys. I want a full week off where I don’t have to utter the sentences, “do you need to do poo-poos?” Or “who did poo-pops?!”

Ha ha! We are doing salt dough handprint ornaments painted like doves. It will take me two hours to clean the kitchen after that!

Christmas craft gifts are educational but so messy!

I feel it today. After a busy four day weekend with my own friends and family, I walked into work where there is four days of charge’s laundry, not one toy or book put away for four days, no food for my charge and full dishwasher. It’s my job and I understand but Monday’s are rough. Monday’s after a four day weekend are rougher.

I had a stay-cation over Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, the furnace was on the fritz, and there was no hot water, so it wasn’t relaxing!
