Is it hard to find an afternoon driver/sitter? RSS feed

We have had au pairs for years but our kids are getting older and really we need a driver and someone who can make dinner for them some nights and do some kids laundry. We've been having trouble getting a new au pair this year. Is it hard to find someone to work 2-7 each night? We would pay $20+ an hour.

You might need to offer $25. Find someone willing to teach your children how to do their own laundry.

5 hours per day guaranteed, that should be very easy.

Where is it easy to find someone dependable? And for how much?

I'm surprised by the responses saying it's not hard. I've read a lot of things in the past about how most "real" or professional nannies want full time work; they might take your part time gig out of desperation but once they find something full time they will ditch you.
And hiring college students leads to high turn over as their schedule changes each semester.

Are all your kids in school yet? We meet tons of after school nannies, and ones who fill in for full days when needed. Have you even tried to find a 20-25 hour a week nanny in this area?

You should be able to find someone. I worked 1-7 for the past 4 years being a household manager for older kids. I did negotiate an extra hour with the parents so that I could have a guaranteed 30 hr. work week. You would probably be able to find one similar from 2-7 4 or 5 days/week. I did light housekeeping, laundry, ran errands and grocery shopped in addition to making dinner and managing the kids' schedules. I also drove them to all of their after school sports and activities and appointments for dentists, ortho, etc.

Sounds like a housekeeping gig.

PP you quoted here

Sorry I didn't clarify, I'm not the OP, and I don't need an afterschool nanny. It's just something I've heard, a lot, so I was surprised that so many people here haven't had those issues. That is all

Leave your email, unless you're a troll.

Easy to find if you are willing to pay top dollar or deal with constant turn over.
