My NF allows their dog to be a vacuum cleaner. He eats everything and if they spill stuff, they make him come over and eat it. Is this what y’all use dogs for?! The dog is old and some stuff it just shouldn’t eat but I am no veterinarian. The reason I am writing this is because the dog throws up some of the food and guess who cleans it- yep, me. I have no responsibilities to this dog- I love dogs but I don’t work at a pet store and if this was in my list of duties, well, I wouldn’t be here. I’ve mentioned before (a few times) that he throws up and they know it because he’s thrown up numerous times after eating eggs and waffles during breakfast etc. What am suppose to do? I am not going to continue to have this conversation with them, and after stepping in it today (which it was green and had chunks of GRAPES in it) I’m pretty fed up. Suggestions? And are dogs suppose to be eating this stuff- in my day, you have a dog rice and chicken if it wasn’t eating or sick but egg Benedict’s or grapes and stuff, no.
Doesn’t sound like the bad dog owners are going to change. Quit. Or leave the dog vomit on the floor until the parents come home.
Sit them down and tell them that they have to stop feeding the dog stuff that makes him vomit or you will need to part ways.
Leave vomit and they can clean it up.
Leave vomit and they can clean it up.
Grapes are toxic to dogs!!

I am a dog owner and no, if we spill something it gets cleaned up immediately.
The dog only eats one-ingredient foods, except for her dog food. And we never EVER feed from the table because we don't want to encourage begging. |
Like a PP stated, grapes can kill a dog!!
Your NF are truly horrible dog owners & my heart truly aches for this poor dog. Since you have already spoken to them + they already know how you feel (and still haven’t remedied the situation), then it is time to issue them your walking papers. This is your only option OP. In the meantime, do not clean up any dog vomit and try not to step in it. I concede..... Easier said than done. Especially if you are caring for a mobile child. Too bad there is no agency like CPS - Canine Protective Services that you can call & report this awful family. Sadly, they are killing their poor dog day by day.

I couldn’t work for people who treated their animals like this. Seriously, these people don’t deserve to have a dog...or you.
+1 I couldn’t agree more!

Thank you all for your feedback. The bad part is they are nice people but I think they're just lazy, and clearly see no harm in feeding (or letting) their dog it anything. I think I will start leaving the vomit on the floor (I feel horrible saying this) but it's another family involved too and I enjoy my charges who are both toddlers. I'm just not going to clean up after the dog when 1. its preventable and 2. it's not what I signed up for. I will let you guys know how it goes moving forward... Thanks again!

Thanks for the update OP!
Yes - Please keep us posted on how everything goes. Good luck. |
Dogs are disgusting. Full of germs. I dislike when he steals the kids food from the table. And now the kids throw thier food to the stupid dog. Sigh
