I am a nanny and I have a charge. I do not have a "nanny family".
I love my job. I love being a nanny. I am extremely close to the couple that I work for and I love their daughter/my charge - but the terminology on this site is really demeaning. I understand that it is a shorthand - I just wish we could come up with a better one. |

I disagree.
Respectfully of course. I think MomBoss (MB) + DadBoss (DB) are perfect monikers and work extremely well since most of us view this forum on our Smartphones, iPads, etc.....vs. a regular desktop computer. The only moniker that I cannot stand is “Larla.” That name is so terrible all I can do is shudder when someone uses it.

I agree with OP - couldn't we use E for Employer? Regardless, my biggest dislike is "nanny family" and "Larla/Larlo". |
| I disagree with OP. Sometimes you really need or want to distinguish between the make employer or the female employers and MB or DB are the perfect way to do that. |
Mom Boss? That is so childish! She isn't my Mom. |
Most married couples with children are still heterosexual. The vast majority of nannies are female. This is a very gendered job and gender often plays a part in nanny/employer interactions. Gender norms and expectations also play a huge role in how a mom parents versus a dad in many families. A shorthand that clarifies whether you are discussing the mom or dad of your charge is useful. No one is confused as to whether they are the nanny’s mom or the child’s mom. And I don’t think anyone thinks of or refers to them as “my mom boss” in real life. In real life I refer to my employers each by their first name. And “nanny family” isn’t interchangeable with “employers” because it refers tp the family collectively. That might include the kids, the dog and live-in grandma, none of whom are my employers—only the parents are. |
| Op is totally right. |
+2 MB, DB and Nanny Family sound immature and childish. |
+1 |
Get over it—they are here to stay. |
| I agree OP. 2/3rds of the problems discussed constantly here would be solved by a more professional approach - whether you're employer or employee. |
I agree 100%. Silly nannies with their "Mom Bosses" wondering why they get no respect. |

This is the dumbest thing I have read here and what is wrong with the world today. People feeling the need to police every thing about others in order to feel acceptance when really people like the op and them are the judgmental ones.
Even if you work for two lesbians they are both the friggin mothers and hence they are both Mb1 and Mb2 nothing about those terms is childish or sounds like they are the nanny’s mother. If you work for 2 men then guess what? They are dads! They are Db1 and Db2. If you’re working for some couple that’s not identifying as either then you refer to them as whatever the kids do with a B on the end because they are your boss which is the same as employer. Not only that but it’s just for posting on a forum and not even that serious. Good grief |
Wow! The point of this thread went sailing over your head!! OZp and others don't like the MB, DB, NF shorthand on this forum. That is all. Go take your mess and have a nap. |
Amen. Who cares? |
