Summer au pair RSS feed

New to this forum. Tell me about hiring an au pair just for the summer. My kids will be 8, 5, and 2. I work 30 hours week from home. Kids will still go to camp at least 3 days/week from 9-3; 2 yo will go every day 9-3 but she gets sick a lot. Au pair would handle early morning for me and dropoff so I can start work early, then help on some afternoons/evenings to give me a break, and would help probably one weekend day/night per week. I have never had a live-in nanny before. We have a guest room with private bath for her so that shouldn't be a problem. Anyway, give me your impression of getting someone in just for June - August.

If I understand your question correctly, you are looking for help for just the summer (3 months). The AP program is intended for a full year. You might be able to get a rematch AP to cover your summer, but you won't be able to do it much in advance and it may not be cost effective - I'm not sure if you could pull it off.

Seems like a better gig for a college student off for the summer, no?

Not worth the hassle and fees. College student or a teacher for the summer would be your best bet. Agencies don't let you enroll for only 3 months, one year contract that you would have to find a way out of without losing a ton of money. Even if you got a rematch that met your schedule you would be on the hook for 9 more months of a AP.

Not possible, as the others have said.
They ended the summer au pair program long ago.

Either find a local sitter, or put them in camp (extended care) each week.

You could consider getting a live-in summer nanny (college student). Not difficult to find or too expensive.
