Federal holidays (which days)

Hi ,
Before, I will take step to talk with my charge parents I want to know Do you guys get all federal holidays?
If not all of them which one do you take? If you work do you get OT?
I am legal employee and work 32 hours.

I'm a parent, not a nanny but if it helps, our nanny gets 10 paid federal holidays (the same ones I get.)

She does not get Veteran's Day in November but gets the day after Thanksgiving instead. She is paid her regular wages for Veteran's Day.

better question is which holidays your bosses get off. If they don't have federal holidays it may be tough for them to provide all of them, but they may be able to give you others that are not federal, like day after thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, etc.

If my nanny works any holiday (hasn't happened so far) I would pay her twice essentially... her regular holiday pay for that day and her hourly wage for the hours she worked that day, with OT if applicable.

Yes I did but it was little different question. Before, I will take step I just wanted to make sure I am not asking something wrong. I meant if many nannies works on federal holidays then I don’t want to ask them. But, if mostly nannies are off then I will to talk with them.

Most nannies get at least the "big 4:" New Year's, July 4, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Probably nearly the same amount also get Labor Day and Memorial Day.

Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, MLK, Jr. Day, President's Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve: some nannies get some combination of these, some do not.

Also, some nannies get a different day off if the "Big 4" holiday does not fall on their work day, others do not.

Agree with the PP. The federal holidays I get off and paid are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

I don’t get MLK Day, Presidents Day, Columbus Day, or Veterans Day.

In addition I am also off and paid for Good Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve.

If the any of the holidays fall on a weekend, I get another day off and paid instead.

I don't know why you keep asking about overtime, OP. Overtime is only for hours worked over 40. You work 32 hours.

Not OP, but most people get paid time and a half or more when working holidays. Why is that difficult for you to understand?

So you are saying I ( someone who does not have MLK off and have to go to work and am paid regular salary) should pay my nanny “ time and a half or more” that day since she’s working on a federal holiday? Yea how about NO

Overtime & Holiday Pay are different types of pay. Those phrases aren't interchangeable.
