What documents does my au-pair need to get a VA drivers license RSS feed

I'm having trouble finding this information on the DMV website. She has an international drivers license. She is just going to need to take the written test right? Not the behind the wheel? What does she need besides her international drivers license, passport and visa?

That page says nothing about what do with an International drivers license. I was asking if anyone had recent personal experience - but as usual i can count on someone to give a bitchy answer.

I believe you need proof of address (bank statement), social security card, all visa documents, international license. Then they need to go to the dmv and take the test.

It is easy to find on the DMV site. A simple search found this PDF, which outlines what you need.

Depends on the country. We've had German AuPairs and they basically just get a license. Other countries have much stricture requirements because those drivers tend to be higher risk.

What about when an au pair is extending? If she isn’t renewing her visa, can she renew her DL given VA’s new and stricter driver’s license requirements?

As long as the DS-2019 shows the updated end date, this should be fine. The visa is only an entry document, and Js are entered J-1/DS on the I-94. The 30-day grace can sometimes be an issue (DMV uses the DS-2019 as the end date without including the grace period) but the actual program dates shouldn't be an issue.

And make sure they print their actual I-94 record (showing J-1/DS) not the travel history!

Make sure it’s an actual bank statement. We were turned away with even an official letter from the bank and a deposit slip or letter because we tried to go whenherbank account was just opened.
