Hello-

I was wondering what is an acceptable starting pay for a nanny with these qualifications
-4 Years experience as a full time Nanny (including infant multiples)
-Other nanny experience (night nanny, travel nanny, part time summer nanny)
-7 years experience as an Elementary Teacher
-B.A. and Masters in Education
-Other childcare experience (preschool teacher, camp director, tutor etc.)
-1st Aid/CPR certified

Thanks for any ideas!

Closer to $35/hr with that degree in education.

In the DC area, start at $28. Set your rate between $28 and $33 depending on how many kids and their ages. Get benefits.

In New York or LA you would be getting $30 at your lowest.

What if this was in the Baltimore area? Is it similar to DC?

To me, it doesnt matter so much what you have done in the past, it matters what you are doing for me. Obviously experience matters but a lot of he other stuff doesn't.

If she's overqualified for your job, then maybe you aren't a good fit.

You can offer her what she's worth in terms of her experience and qualifications and she will almost definitely accept and be happy, but you may come to resent the cost if you feel like you aren't benefiting all of the knowledge and skills that come with that rate. Or maybe you'll find that she really does bring something useful to the table that's worth the expense.

Or, you can offer her what you think the job is worth for someone with her experience and qualifications only in the relevant areas. She might be happy with that number, or she might take it because it's close to what she feels she deserves, but she may keep looking for something where her additional skills and experiences would be useful and thus command a higher rate.

Or, you can keep looking for a better match.
