I am in a dilemma. I have been working PT ( 12 hours a week) for a SAHM for about 2 months. My intentions were to find a FT position but fell in love with my current family, and decided to looking for PT. That hasn't been working. I have been on vacation for the past week, and took a babysitting job, which lead to an unexpected job offer. It's a good offer, but they need me to start next week, so I can't give any notice. My boss once said that was fine, but I still feel badly about it. I haven't had much luck with jobs lately, and feel I need to jump on it.
Job specifics - A little further away than currently family, but not a bad commute. - Work 32 hours but get paid for 40 hour until she goes back FT in February. -Standard benefits. - Baby a little more fussier and harder to work with. Would you forego giving notice to take this job? |
| Absolutely. |
| Since the new mom is at home (& presumably flexible), can you work both jobs until you fulfil the notice in your contract with the current family? 12 hours + 32 hours for two weeks or so? That would be the honorable thing to do, plus you get extra pay to boot. It's a win-win if the new employer can accommodate (wouldn't she want notice when you leave her employ?). |
Op here. I worked it out where I can work two days next week, and work my day off ( new job is M - TH) until they find a replacement. The mom was sad but said she understands. I am glad it worked out. |
| Sounds great...you might want to put a sunset date on that in case it gets tiring, but I'm so happy it worked out for you! |

I am glad it all worked out as well.
Good luck OP!
