Till what age the child has to take afternoon nap?
Please give me logical reasons. I am dealing with the family who are against afternoon naps. Thanks |

Different kids do different things. By the time my oldest DD was 2 she didn't nap anymore. Went to bed at 7:30pm and slept until 7:30 am.
My younger DD is 4 and still naps for two hours a day. |

same as PP.
-my 1st kid napped til age 4. -2nd kid dropped the nap at age 20 months- flat out refused to nap anymore -twins napped until age 5. then we forced them to drop because they would stay up until 10pm. all kids are different. they should drop when they are ready or if bedtime is getting pushed back past 9pm |
| Every kid is different but regardless of whether they sleep they should be required to have a quiet rest time where they look at books or do another quiet activity for an hour or so. It's healthy for them to take a break and it's healthy for you (or any caregiver) to have some down time. |
| It usually stops around 4. |
| My oldest napped until 4.5. My middle two were done with naps by 3, because they would stay up too late if they took an afternoon nap. My youngest dropped his nap at 2.5. We still do an hour of quiet time, though, for everyone's sake. |
| Nanny here and I dropped the nap at 3 because he wasn't falling asleep until 10 PM. Once there was an adjustment period, he was so much happier. |
How old is the child? |

Thanks for all replies. He is 18 months. My charge is 12.30 to 7.30. The family don’t wants he take nap during my charge. I am okay with that as long as he don’t become fussy. The parents said he don’t take nap in morning as well. How come 18 month baby wakes up at 6.30 am and refuse nap till bed time 8.30 pm ? I am really confused.
Thanks |
Some babies don't need as much sleep as others. It's possible he's just one of the exceptions. But I agree, that sounds really strange, and kind of awful for the baby. Is he fussy while you're there? |
| Yes hard to deal with him. |
| Wow. 18 months sounds way too young to drop all naps. My kids dropped their afternoon naps sometime between ages 3 and 4 1/2. |
|
He should still be napping. I would find a new job if they are against this.
Most kids stop somewhere between 3-4. For my kids I stopped the nap when bedtime was becoming to late because they werent tired enough. They were both almost 4. |

Two things:
Mine napped daily until starting all day camp the summer after kindergarten. So about 6 and a half. Answers here don’t matter. It’s entirely your employers call to make. |
| I agree it depends on the individual child, but most have dropped their naps around the age of four. |
