We need to run a background check on a nanny we plan to hire. If you conducted a background check on your nanny, which service did you use?

Do not do one online.

I once did one where I paid $39.95 only to learn that I had been married to someone seven years before I was born!

True story.

Most nannies no longer allow credit checks, unless they'll be handling the family's finances.

Never heard of a nanny being asked for fingerprints. Who does that? I'd think you'd have to be offering six figures.

If anything, nannies should be doing credit checks on the parents. How would you know if they're really going to pay you appropriately and on time, as agreed?

Lots of nannies have been victimized this way by their employers. Few of them can invest the time to sue in court.
