Nannies and nanny families, do you pay into a disability policy?
Another thread prompted the question. I'm an MB and my kid's nanny has been sick a lot this year. I feel really bad for her but I do need to find reliable care and I can't double pay. We did not pay into a disability policy and neither did the nanny. If we had, she could take the time off she needed without losing all income and we could afford a replacement. I am considering bringing this up with the nanny and splitting the cost or something like that if she is interested. Curious to hear opinions and experiences.

I have not. I looked into it briefly, and it didn't look like it would work for us. I can't remember if cost was a factor (but I pay 100% of her health insurance + dental, and anything pricey would have been difficult), but I seem to remember that no one here (I'm in Georgia) really had a policy for this employment situation.

You should do some calling around before you even bring it up, because, as I said, I seem to remember that there's not really an affordable AFLAC-type disability insurance for individuals.

Really good health insurance + workman's comp is likely going to work better.

BTW, if you do find a reasonably-priced, decent disability insurance, please let me know!

Ha, ok, will do. Hopefully another poster with experience can point us in a direction.
