| So my NF are going on a week long vacation starting today and MB asks me to come in and help with the children while they pack, but that's when MB feels like I should do more, and she asks me to stay an hour after they leave and clean the entire house (vacuum, moping, take out the trash, wash dishes, etc) and lock up, and she wants me to feed her child because he's not willing to feed himself and wants to throw his food. I am already up to my neck with cleaning behind my charge and his newly created messes, and mom is just sitting around watching the chaos, and huffing and puffing as if she's annoyed that I'm not doing enough. I've tried explaining to her that I'm currently busy with one task. But she obviously doesn't care. |
| Um, no, I'm not cleaning your house after you leave, unless it's in the contract. That easy. |

I think watching the kid while they pack is reasonable if you are being paid and its within your normal hours? This would include feeding him.
Cleaning after they leave though? No thanks. |
| OP here! Yes, helping with the children is within the hours and I agreed to do that. MB told me days in advance that I could come in early to help out, then leave early when they leave, now she expects me to clean the house after hours. I can't get paid near hours because the children aren't there, so idk why she thinks I'm going to stay there and clean for free. Especially after it was stated I can leave when the family leaves. |

Say no to the cleaning. Calmly and unemotionally tell her that cleaning is not part of your job and you are very disappointed in her that she would ask. Say a cool goodbye. Leave her wondering if you will show up for work when they get home.
Once, DB wrote in the baby log, "If you have time could you do some ironing". I thought it would be the baby's ironing but the basket was full of DB's shirts. I was clearly angry when he got home but contained it and told him in no uncertain terms that I only iron for the baby and was insulted that he would ever ask me. As I was leaving that day, which happened to be a Friday, I said, "Let's all take the weekend to see how we can proceed". Well, he and MB were different people come Monday morning. |
Who irons baby clothes?
|
I do. Not all but some look awful if not ironed. |

Yeah no to cleaning. We went on vacation and paid out nanny her guaranteed hours for the week. I asked for her to come and water the plants and check for leaks in the house (just in case) one day when we were gone so like an hour commitment. That's it.
She sweetly mopped the floors and took out the trash to the curb since she was here on trash day. because she's awesome and I thanked her profusely. |
I iron organic cotton clothes and sheets! I like things crisp! |
Guaranteed hours, negotiations need to happen asap. You are available for designated hours, you get paid. You didn't decide to quit the day early, they have vacation plans. |
Some dresses have to me ironed or they are crumpled and look unwashed. |
