Hi – our au pair is interested in a US history course, preferably during the day time in the week while the kids are in school. And somewhat affordable. We are in MD, just outside of DC. Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

Check Montgomery College. You will pay out of state rates.
Alternatively, you can try one of the Au Pair weekends...sometimes they talk about US history or culture. |
If you are in Montgomery County, you'll pay in state rates. |
| See if she can audit a class |
Auditing won't help her as she'll still need to pay and yet won't get any credit. OP, have you talked to your LCC? |

OP here -
Thanks everyone, for the suggestions. I did look at the Montgomery College website and didn't find one, but sounds like I should look again. Our LCC recommended the weekend courses (and we may go that route). |

Montgomery college should have - but she may need to take a language test. My AP is enrolled there now. The online class through UCLA for APs has some history. There are also the BMCC classes at Trinity on weekends. http://www.campusce.net/learningacrossamerica/course/course.aspx?catId=32

| We've used the local community college for both our APs, and our first actually did take a history class. Is that not an option OP? We're in PG County and there's a special one-page form for au pairs that you, as the host, sign which sponsors the AP to receive in-county & in-state rates. |
| Are you with APIA? apparently there is now an online course for 6 credits coving American history |
| Tell her to keep her money and try registering with Edex or Coursera. Both offer free online classes from top universities ( without credit) or with credits( about $65 ). I took classes there from Harvard, Stanford, university of Washington, Oxford and others. |
