Nanny on here inflate wages (I no, i use to do it) RSS feed

Anonymous
I use to do it as a way to guilt the parents and to make the general community take nannying more seriously

The reason I am admitting is because I no longer want to fill heads of people entering the nanny profession with unrealistic rates nor do I want parents to think they will get a lazy bum if they do not pay excessive rates.
I no many childcare workers who get paid under $15 per hour and are hard working and great people
Just like there's a overpaid lazy nanny out there in sure

Same. If you think our idea of "salary research" is solely asking on DCUM about salaries, then maybe it's because YOU, the nanny are lazy so you assume others are too.

-Another MB.

I am sure most people know rates really vary depending on where you work and the nature of the job. I'm west coast based and even tho the going rate is 18-20, I've seen a lot of variance on both sides of that.

If you pay above $15/hr you should expect your nanny to know the difference between know and no.

I'm in LA and nannies don't get out of bed for less than $20/hr. If you have a degree and are reasonably intelligent, wages here are up to $35-40/hr. But that's LA. People know the rate where they live, and nobody in DC is paying their nanny that much. Parents aren't dumb, you can't inflate the wages to a crazy amount.

Nope. I have a Master's Degree and I've worked in LA. $35-$40/hr is rare even for top nannies in LA. It's more common in the Bay Area where I am now, but still not common. The nannies who are making 6 figure salaries are usually working a ton of hours for that salary. I know several top nannies who are educated and have good jobs in LA and have one friend right now in LA making $35/hr in a traditional nanny position (Not Newborn Care Specialist or Doula).

Nope? Who are you? I'm paid 29/hr with one family and 40/hr with the other so clearly it happens.

Exactly. This is what the very best nannies earn. Your average nanny earns your average pay. Your doormat nanny earns the lowest pay.

It's not a nanny at all. She's trying too hard to look like a poor broken-English immigrant. Nice try, OP!!

Gross, yes I do. Sorry you're not registered with a top agency. Maybe you should work on your skills.
