| I wish enough of us nannies and parents would ban together to shut care.com down. There practices are illegal and unethical. I was contacted by two families for two different positions. One wanted to offer $280/week for 40 hours. The other wanted to pay $10 for 50/ hours a week, as well as major housekeeping and care of a 3 month old. I wrote them my pay rate, and reported them to care.com. Care.com goes and closes my account. What kind of business sides with families paying illegal wages? I am so livid about their practices. |
| Rrrpirtvto Better Business Bureau. Enough complaints will make people aware of their questionable practices. Also, consult an attorney to see if this is " Restraint of Trade" f o r you. |
| ^^Report them to Better... |
| I kind of like Care.com. It's like Craig's List. You know from the get go buyer beware. |
| I love care.com. I've been using it for 7years and make $20-25 an hour from everything I find there. I find nanny family and babysitting gigs. |
Sure.

doubtful it will ever be shut down.
Google just bought a major stake in it today. Looks like it's here to stay and will get bigger. http://www.cnbc.com/2016/06/29/google-sends-carecom-shares-soaring-after-buying-big-stake.html |
I don't apply to the low paying jobs. |
|
Google bought a stake in this bogus AND scamming franchise??!
What's next for the world?? A racist flaky president who speaks like a dictator????? |
| So don't reply to those families. What is the big deal? Should we shut down every newspaper, internet site, etc. where people post jobs that other people don't want? |
| I got kicked off of Care for telling someone they should try craigslist with the rate they wanted to pay. I live in an area without much agency representation, so now I'm regretting my comment. |
| People are allowed to ask whatever rate they like. If you don't like it, then don't take the job. |
Though I agree online services can be frustrating, it works for allot of people. Personally I would use online to obtain employment over an agency any day, and by the way there are allot more unethical agencies then using online. Online is a self serve in bringing employers and candidates together and many people like it. I get to decide if a family is a fit for me instead of a person from an agency that thinks they can judge me and I do not like being sold by an agency. I am wondering if this OP is really an agency, or someone helping and agency trying to shut down care.com because they are losing business. |
If your post here is an indication you were probably extremely rude and snarky to the parents, no matter what pay rate they offered you, I wouldn't want you on my site either. |
| It makes sense that Care.com dropped your account. Those families didn't do anything wrong. They offered the wages they wanted to pay. Those are very low wages, so they won't get good applicants. One of them may have been below minimum wage, but it is unclear from this post. Don't reply to them - or if they called you, tell them that those rates are much too low for you. End of story. You were the one who did something strange by "reporting" them to care.com |
