Went into Rematch with AuPair Now Dealing with Financial Mess RSS feed

Anonymous
I went into rematch with my last au pair a few months ago. She was sent home very abruptly for putting our child in danger. Since she's left we had been getting a lot of mail from her bank and various credit card companies. Now I am getting constant calls from her bank and creditors. I am not responsible for any of her bills, but its really becoming a nuisance. I have no idea where she is living now and have no way to contact her. Has anyone else dealt with this?

How did she even get a credit card?

We have received notices for two au pairs for unpaid medical bills (charges were outrageous and deceptive, and they still did their best to resolve with insurance, but in the end left with unpaid bills).

We did not receive calls but we still get mail. They will peter out after a while, but it's going to take a while. I agree with blocking the phone numbers, and either put mail in the garbage, send back to sender (unknown recipient) or send it back to her parents house (you should have the address from the original placement?).

You ex-AP sounds like a piece of work...

Tell them the truth and give them the agency information. I got calls for my MIL who is now in a nursing home. I offered her information but after telling them the situation and her financial resources I stopped getting calls.

We have similar issues with an ex employee from India who just up and left without cancelling running contracts or paying his bills.
We have just forwarded him his second (2-inch) pile of mail to his current "I may or may not work here" forwarding address and are telling everybody that we are not responsible for his mess. Our phone system won't let us block numbers so they end up with me. We have had debt collectors show up in the office (which he gave as his new address when moving). It's ridiculous.

We have told him all future mail will be returned to sender. Any future immigration problems are all on him. And he better never lists us as a reference because it would not end up positive (he got his PhD with us, we are his only real employment ever).
