Nanny Asks: Is it unethical for a nanny agency to call your current employers when you ask them not to?
I asked a nanny agency not to contact my current employers but they did. I got fired. I wasn't ready to leave. Now what?

Please out the agency right here, OP,
so they'll NEVER do THAT again.

Or do they have any GOOD (immediate) job offers for you?

If not, OUT them. Shame on them.

It would be nice to know what agency this is, and sorry to say many agencies even top APNA agencies do this kind of thing and APNA knows this and would not do anything

OP were you looking for a new position behind your current boss's back? If so, you got what you deserve.

Check out the Jobs and Careers forum to see how to handle job interviewing while still employed... WITHOUT telling your boss.

Busted!

Really, this must me an agency, most people in jobs do not tell/or quit a position till they have a new one, this agency was way out of line. This is why agencies lose good nannies, they have no loyalty to nannies because the nanny does not pay them.

Nannies take this as a learning experience, never trust an agency no matter what they say, they are never on the nannies side

You do not need agencies these days to get a great job, just drop them and do not look back

The agencies are getting what they deserve

Sadly, I'm afraid PP is correct. Such a shame to.

This is difficult bc nanny has to do through a process before joining the agency and calling references is part of that process. If you cannot have them call then you shouldn't give their number. You could, obviously too late for OP, tell your family that you are considering picking up a few weekend hours and that they will be receiving a phone call from an agency. Another good thing to do is have your family write a reference letter after the first year so that you have their review of you on record for the agency or whomever.

Wow.
You told the agency specifically NOT to call your current bosses yet they did anyway.

The people that work there must be so thick in the head.

I'm sorry this happened to you OP.

If I were you, I would just start looking for a new job on your own.
Sucks, but what else can you do?

Good luck!

They're just evil, imo.

Out them. Consult a lawyer because you may have a cause of action.

Why did you give them contact info if you didn't want your current employers involved?

Name the agency please, otherwise this looks like more anti-agency trolling.

I specifically told an agency that I do not want my references sent to potential families. Obviously I don't want them calling my references before I even talk to them! But they send all my references' private information to a potential family that I have not even spoken to. Such idiots!
