Match Break in Extension Year - Who pays for the ticket?

| Has anyone had a match break in their extension year with an AP? If she completed the first year successfully it seems she has earned the right to a ticket home even if an issue arises in the second year? Is this the case? Thanks. |

| I think that this is technically how it works. Since AP has completed her first year, the agency will pay for the ticket, although they may not say that upfront. We took in a 2nd year AP last year but wanted someone only for 9 months, though her extension was already approved for 12. We had discussed having her go home early and she was told she would have to pay for the ticket. In the end she stayed the full 12m so we never really found out what would have happened. |

actually, technically, I think AP pays for the ticket. We had a 2nd year AP that almost rematched, and the agency told her she would pay for it. The host family pays a new $8000 agency fee for a year contract, and AP signs a year contract also. Therefore, if AP quits, agency needs to find a new AP for host family at no extra cost to them. That's why they will not pay for a AP's ticket home if she quits. |

| Depends on the agency. CCAP always pays for ticket going for rematch AP who couldn't find another HF. I don't think it's any different of AP is 1st year or 2nd |

| With APIA the au pair has already earned her ticket home after completing the first year so the agency pays it. |

| + 1 We had a 2nd year extension AP. They definitely didn't tell us ahead of time that they could basically bail anytime during that year w/o any actual ramifications/incentives & their air fare had been 'earned' after one year. |

| No, for CCAP. If AP ends term early, either in first year or extension term, and it is AP choosing to go home and not go up for a new placement, the AP is responsible for paying for flight home. |

This creates silly incentives. If I were an AP, I would put myself in the pool and make sure nobody wanted me so they would pay my ticket... |
