There is a way for them to track what websites you visit.

They will also possibly see ads based on what you view on their wifi. For example, if you look at a dress on a website frequently, they might begin seeing ads for that dress when they are online.

I do that with our wifi, occasionally I check to see what webpages nanny visited and what messages she sent. The program we use bills itself as a "packet sniffer"

None of the above last two comments are true at all.

Just because you use WiFi in someone else's home doesn't mean that they have easy access to what you did on your Smartphone, iPad, laptop, etc.

This is a popular misconception folks.

OP be careful taking advice regarding technology on a nanny forum. You don't have to believe me but unless every page you visit is encrypted (and only things like banks, etc are encrypted. Amazon, Facebook, etc are not encrypted.) then MB can see everything you saw. All the data that ended up on you smart phone went through MBs router and she can see a page for page history.

You are incorrect. I guarantee that if they are savvy, they are able to see what pages you visit. Even when you view a webpage "incognito" on firefox, for example, you are given this message:
Please note that your employer or Internet service provider can still track the pages you visit.
