We are thinking of sharing a nanny with another family whose daughter will be 4 months younger than our son (girl will be 3 mos, boy 7 months) by the time the share starts. Is this workable, or will the age difference be an issue?

The kids are young enough that they are either too close or too far apart. 4-7 month gap is the worst.
I strongly disagree with 00:15. That age difference will be fine. If you feel like you would get along with the other family and you agree on important matters, go for it.
Personally, I would never do an infant share with more than 10 weeks difference in age.
An experienced nanny will be fine, it is a little harder in the beginning, but will raven out in 6mo or so.

We did a nanny share with a kid 2.5 years older than our daughter. It was great. Our daughter definately gets a lot from being with an older child. I did not worry about schedules or different nap cycles. The nanny had a plan and seemed to manage just fine. We were totally happy and stayed in the share until we moved 18 months later.
