Would you hire a SAHM / what is fair compensation ? RSS feed

I have a 6 month old. I am struggling with what is fair compensation. Also at what age do you think this kind of set up would benefit the children? Is 6 months to early? Home daycare costs $275/week in my area. Should I be earning more, since it's a 1 to 2 ratio situation? Less if the child gets dropped off at my home? I want to be fair, but if fair is way less $$$$ then I will probably opt out of doing childcare all together. I have 6 years experience as a nanny before becoming a SAHM . This was 1.5 years ago. I used to charge $15/hour. Perhaps I should charge an hourly rate? Ideally I'd like to work 2 days/week . Maybe $10/hour?

All depends how much someone likes you and wants you for their child. Can you get a license to provide child care in your place?

I think you need a permit . It says on the Fairfax county website a permit is required for five or fewer children.

OP here: I think need a permit if you care for kids from more than one family.

You need a permit if you care for children who are not in their own home.

OP: I checked and a permit isn't needed in Fairfax county if it's just one other child. I found a family willing to pay $14/hour.

If you're collecting money for a child not in his/her own home, you need to be licensed in Fairfax County. Without a license, that child has no homeowner's insurance coverage either. I recently attended an information session and this was discussed.

Where exactly did you check on this?

This isn't true. You are allowed to care for one unrelated child at your home. No need for a license or permit. A license is needed if it's a daycare situation which means 4 or more kids.
