Getting fired after baby for me sick RSS feed

Anonymous
My NF posted a new ad for a nanny. I called in sick yesterday and MB told me to stay home today. Their 11 month old daughter had a flu bug last week and the week before. I have caught it and have been throwing up, diarrhea, and high fever. I caught it last week but still worked, but I'm now much worse. I never try to miss work but MB doesn't want me around her now that she is getting better. DB gave me the option of having tomorrow off since he will be home. I was going to go in but not sure now that they are replacing me. I'm pretty upset given I'm in this situation because of their child. I know this happens working with kids, but I'm still upset. I've been with them since late July any did missed one other day when I was called in for jury duty.

* sorry. Getting fired after baby got me sick.

Until you're sure they're replacing you, I would still go in when you get better. Maybe they're just looking for a short term until you get better?
Either way, you should apply to jobs once you're better; I still can't believe families fire nannies over getting sick honestly.

The ad said " we are replacing our nanny and need someone lined up ASAP".

As a nanny, I wouldn't even consider applying for a job that said that in its posting.

I would always feel as if I was next on the chopping block. Plus I could never trust parents who could be so deceitful about something like firing someone else.

Poor future nanny.

OP, what is happening to you is entirely unfair. Screw them morons, rest up, drink lots of liquids and once you are all better, it's time to go back to the drawing board.

Not fun, but much better than working for such inconsiderate, selfish people who actually think nannies are so indispensable.

Have you talked to them about the ad ? I would want concrete info

It's also possible they're firing you for other reasons, and the illness just gave them a kick in the pants to move on. If you've been reliable until now, it seems unlikely that's the only reason.

There are a lot of parents out there who don't know what they're doing to their child. They'll be sorry down the road.

I'm not OP but like to quote her words:

"I've been with them since late July any did missed one other day when I was called in for jury duty."

If I'm OP I will ask them what is going on.

Do you understand certain people are just evil?
Stop looking for excuses for them.
Hope you aren't one of them.
Are you?

OP here. There isn't any other reason. They even gave me a present on Friday for my hard work and saying how much they love and appreciate me for doing such a good job.

Both MB is a nurse and DB owns a lucrative business. They do not have backup. They were pissed when I had jury duty and DB told me I didn't have to really go to it. DB said he is backup when I can't be there and he can't miss work.

I am vaccinated. What upsets me is I wouldn't even be sick if I didn't get it from there baby, who they denied was sick for two days, and claimed I was wrong. I wasn't wrong when they had to rush her to the ER with a temp of 102.4 and severe dehydration. I think it's BS I am getting let go for being ill.

They're plain shitty to take advantage of a good nanny like that.

Since when is there a vaccine against gastroenteritis? Oh, wait, there isn't. (You do know the stomach "flu" isn't the same as the influenza you get vaccinated against, right?)

Hey dude,

I'm just asking. She is a good nanny and there is NO other reason I can think of. You need to calm down and breath slowly.
