Question for nannies RSS feed

If you notice something positive your nanny is doing, like a nice art project they did with the kids or the kids mentioning something, is it okay to text them a "nice job with..." Or "thanks for..." In non-work hours? Sometimes I notice such things and want to thank her, but in the craziness of before work and after work hours I forget. I don't want to intrude on her time though!

How is a thank-you intrusive, troll?

No. She is off duty and you do this face-to-face so you make it a point to tell her when she is off duty. Does your boss bother you at home?

Not a troll, I just wondered if a nanny would be bothered by getting work-related messages in non work hours, even if they are positive.

When I plan to tell her face to face I sometimes forget, I leave earlier and get home later than my husband so don't sometimes see her for days!

And my boss does email me off duty, but email seems less intrusive than text. However, texting is the nanny's main form of communication with me (other than face to face, obviously).

I will take all the thank you's I can get !

I would never be annoyed or offended by an off hours "thank you" text! Just be sure you aren't annoyed if she doesn't respond.

I would love a "thank you" and any sign of appreciation ANYTIME. Very generous and good of you to even ask this question. Strangers compliment me on how I am with my charge but my employers never do. It is an issue.

This, definitely. I would love to get a thank you for something well done even in my off hours. Just don't expect me to reply right away!

I love to receive those texts any time! But I don't always respond after hours either.

MB here. I never ever text the nanny during off-hours unless absolutely necessary. I write a note saying thank you.

Um, yeah, actually. Welcome to the real world, where we're all bothered via electronic device all the time.

I much prefer to get a note, either left on the counter in the morning for me, or one MB had the kids mail me a thank you note, even though I live-in. The kids were giggling the whole time we were walking out to the mailbox, so it was fun for all.

Any communication from my employer after work hours I charge for. So if you were to text me I would expect some extra money in my paycheck. Honestly, you can just skip the text and just give me the extra money, that's what I'm working for, not your admiration. Put your money where your mouth is honey!
