is it true that we can no longer reimburse or pay directly to insurance company our nannys health insurance premium?! Our accountant is saying changes to law only allow for increase in salary and nanny must set up pretax health account. This law is a nightmare. |
Sounds like a good law to me. Why are you having such a hard time, OP? |
Because it changes all the time! Want to be legal! |
OP here - this is a question of HOW to pay not IF. Please don't tune this into another string about wages. I'm just looking for advice. These changes effect us all. If you're a nanny without health insurance, penalty is enforced this year and they could be hefty - this is not an expensive paid by your employer. |
You are so worried about being "legal" here where there are no penalties and nothing on the line, but I bet you speed, DUI, put things in neighbors mailboxes, etc. There are so many things that are illegal that people do everyday without second thought. Why stress about this. |
OP, my understanding is that these changes do not apply to small/single employee employers such as those of us who only employ a nanny. I believe you can still continue to offer this benefit to your nanny as you always have.
I don't think your accountant is fully informed. There are threads on here about this - if I get a minute I'll try to find them and give you a link or two. |
GTM just posted this:

Can you please post here the pertinent content of the law? Thanks. |
Op you're still ok. This is for more a than one employee. I checked with homepay. |
