Serious question, professional nannies RSS feed

Are there actually, in real life, nannies making $50/hr like in that other thread? Is that possible? What makes them worth that? I've seen threads about getting from $20/hr to $30, but $50 and above is such a huge jump..... I'm confused.

Read the job descriptions on the other thread. (Which btw, mention wages of 20-30$ for most of the jobs.)

Most mention weekend and evening work, travel, flexible schedules, and flexibility in household tasks (several say doing "whatever needs to be done" and "the words not in my job description do not apply")

Most of you parents have never seen a professional nanny. You have mostly sitters, not nannies.

I have a friend right now making $35/hr in a 24 hour job, so her OT rate is $52.50. It's not an easy job though, so she definitely works hard.

No. There are so very very few nannies making $50/hr and the expectations of their duties so above and beyond a normal nanny contract, they are not worth considering. They are the very definition of outliers.

There probably are a few, and they probably work their tails off for it. But they are the exception to the rule for sure. By a mile.

Yes there are, but only in the big cities.

What duties do you think they have beyond the norm? I don't think you understand exactly why these people are getting $50.

Why did the post from the $50.75/hr nanny get deleted??

Wait, she's on the $40-60/hr thread.

If they are indeed making that kind of dough, they also must be doing all of the deep cleaning, laundry, washing carpets, dry cleaning, detailing five family cars and buying groceries to cook dinner every night.

Certainly none that I have ever known but I would imagine that someone like Angelina Jolie pays her nannies $50 an hour.

For $50/hr I would imagine you are 100% on call for the family, expected to go where they go, show up when they need you, expect to work holidays, weekends, odd hours. You may also be managing other caregivers. You are probably expected to do what you are asked, as well, even if it's not something you consider a nanny's duties.

No, there are not $50/hr jobs where you get to have your own life, too.

People who can afford professional nannies can also afford other professionals, as needed.

For instance, my last longterm nanny job had a driver on call whenever we wanted to go someplace. I've never been expected to do a family's cooking or housekeeping. With some jobs, I've had the family cook prepare whatever I wanted for lunch.

These wealthy families understand how to keep a top-notch professional nanny very happy.

For $50/hr I promise you that nanny will not be doing laundry and cleaning anything. They will be 100% focused on the kids. You can get a housecleaner to come in for $50 a DAY while the nanny focuses all her attention on your children.
