I have been working with family A and B for 20 months. Family A just left the share due to relocation and family B wants to keep me but still pay the same money ($11/h) i was making $22 in a share and i just dont want to make less. I understand that since i still have a job i cant file for unemployment but my question is how long i need to work for a new family to be able to get unemployment? I think i will take 1-2 months break before i start looking for a new job. If i find a new family after 2 months not working and they will let me go lets say 4 months later will i still be able to file for unemployment? I heard somewhere that i have to work at least 6 months straight. We are trying to get pregnant and if we are lucky i will be pregnant within the next few months so lets say i "quit" after 20 months in May, i wont work June and July and then will start working in August. In November im telling my new boss im pregnant and If im let go can get unemployment??? |
This is ridiculous. But that's a reason to have this in a contract. You may suggest a bonus for working so long at half the pay. |
You will be unable to collect unemployment if you choose to leave a job. You have to be fired or laid off to collect.
You also, in most jurisdictions, need to demonstrate that you are actively looking for work in order to collect unemployment. I think it's possible to "game the system" somewhat, but it takes work just to fake looking for work so you can't count on have a few months "break" that is funded by unemployment if you choose to leave this job. (Though I agree that it's ridiculous for a family to think they can continue paying share rates if they're not sharing you.) |
You may qualify for unemployment now because your pay rate changed so drastically. Major changes to jobs sometimes count as eliminating the original job. Call the labor department in your state to ask. |
You should file since you lost one of your employers. Do it now. |
OP here. I know I can't file now because it's my choice to leave the job. I can try though as pp suggested since my income changed drastically.
I know I have to be active looking for a job but of course no one will hire a pregnant nanny so I will have a proof of looking for a job. i wanna be safe and first find a new job, then get pregnant because I'm sure once I tell my new mb I'm pregnant I will be let go so I won't quit. My question is regarding how long I need to have a new job to be able to get unemployement?! If I work 20 months, then few weeks I don't work (no unemployment), then go back to work but be laid off 3 monthsin. |
OP, you need to do some research in your state about the specifics.
I don't think what you're planning to do to your next employer is all that ethical however. |
I understand that you are having some money issues, but what you are proposing to do to your future employer is ridiculous!
You give nannies such a bad name. I hope that you at least pay taxes on your current income! |
Wow, you are ridiculous OP.
|
Can you just find a new family to join the nanny share? |
OP here. What am i doing wrong? Im not pregnant and wont be when i start a new job. Is it my resposibility to tell my future boss during the interview that i would like to start my own family soon?? Thats a real world girls! Im just smart and protect myself.
If you have a problem with answering the question, go and try to help someone else. Im looking for an answer to my question from mature people. |
Obvious troll. |
The problem is that you are trying to cheat the system and get unemployment. You are taking taxpayer money that could go to better things. If you can't afford to have a baby, then don't- stop trying to fund "building your family" with money that other people work hard for. You aren't protecting yourself at all! You plan on getting a new job just so you can fired and collect unemployment? How is that being smart? |
Why do you assume you'll be fired for being pregnant? As it happens my current nanny is pregnant. Granted she's been with me far more than four months, but I plan to offer her the same FMLA protections I'm entitled to. She may very well chose not to return to her job. But firing her would be pretty despicable. |
Yea, it would be "despicable" to fire someone who can't do the job they were hired to do. *eyeroll* |
