Hello - I'm an MB and we are going to be forced to let our nanny go. I don't think she will be looking for a job right away. Sounds like from what she has told me she wants to file unemployment and lay low.
She's on the books and technically because we are "laying her off" she will dip into unemployement insurance. So my question is, do I have to pay additional on that? How does that work? Also, how much notice should I give her? What kind of severance should I offer? Thanks! |
She will only qualify for unemployment if she is looking for work, and she will have to prove it. Your rate for UI may go up for some period.
My nanny got unemployment briefly (a few weeks worth), but was unable to work, so they stopped paying it pretty quickly. Two weeks notice or severance seems standard. |
