DB putting my charge in danger RSS feed

Anonymous
I have been with my NF since my 21 old charge was 8 weeks old.
They are a wonderful family and I love being their nanny.
Since the weather has warmed, DB has started doing more lawn work.
For some reason, he starts mowing the lawn when I leave at 5:00.
He takes my charge and has him play near him while he mows the lawn.
My charge chases his dad around and gets really close the the lawnmower.
The house is in a subdivision and is next to a very busy road with dozens of cars coming home from work.
I am so, so afraid that my little guy is going to get hit by a car or mangled by the lawnmower.
DB doesn't have his full attention on him.
I have offered to hang out with him until MB arrives at 5:10, but DB refuses.
What, if anything should I do? I don't want to see something terrible happen.

Tell both your MB and DB your concerns. Sometimes FTP are clueless. Make sure that DB and MB are together when you tell them.

I'd much rather get fired than allow anything to happen to my charge.

Of course you have to say something to both DB and MB. State your fears clearly and tell them how fast your charge is and the danger he is in.

I would rather die than ever let anything happen to my charge so I would be willing to get fired for warning my employers as well.

You can address your concerns with his father by reminding him of the dangers of lawnmowing and young children. Also, remind him of the danger of your charge being in such close proximity to the busy street.

After that, unfortunately it is entirely out of your hands.

You can only do so much here.

Hopefully your cautionary words will have an impact on your dadboss.

I echo the above and would repeat the importance of telling what is going on to your MB. I am an MB and I would absolutely want to know if my DH was doing this.

I think you could talk with DB about this in a really low-key way but a way that gets the point across (even making something up), like:

"It seems like Jimmy has such a great time playing while you do the lawnwork. I'm just really concerned about his safety. I knew a kid who got hurt x, y, and z from a lawnmower, and it was terrible. I really don't want to see anything happen to Jimmy. It'd feel much better about this if I stayed a bit later and watched him while you mow the lawn."

As I was leaving I would just say Jimmy why don't you come sit on the stairs And watch daddy cut the grass! It's dangerous to play so close to the lawn mower/streets

What did you decided to do about this, OP? Did you talk to you MB or DB?
