Moving to Arlington / courthouse area this mo. I have 4 kids ages 4, 6,10,13. The 10 & 23 yr old require minor supervision and meals. 2 younger like being played with. We usually have Aupair but temp in an apt. I expect some of the kids to be at camp but the camp won't be all day usually
How much per hr? Say 36-40 hrs week. We will let them use our car. Thanks |
| Between 10-30/hr. Depends who you want. |
| That's a big range. I want my kids alive and not watching tv all day. To show up. Know how to cook some lunch. Will go to park. Drive and not crash the car. |
Seriously? Who is going to take care of four kids LEGALLY for ten dollars an hour? Between 20 and 30 and hour, OP. I pay $20 for one child but she is highly qualified and educated. |
| Op. Lots of education not required. I want summer only. I'm thinking 18-20. ? |
Good luck. Try the local colleges. |
| I think you should offer at least 25. if you can possibly afford it, OP. Sounds like a lot of responsibility. |
| lots o' kids require lots o' money |
| I think $18-$20 is quite adequate. I pay a bit less than that in the Fairfax area for 3 school aged kids, and summers are also filled with activities planned by me. My nanny actually enjoys activities with kids (like biking, zoo, museums, board games), sometimes movie theaters, and it is not like she has to change diapers every hour. She also does quiet time with them when the kids have homework (or just reading time), so the nanny does have down time. I get higher rates when there are "4 under 5", but with school aged kids it is different in my mind. |
| The youngest will be 5 in Aug and is in K. She is a fun girl. Loves activities girl stuff boy stuff. The older 2 like boy stuff and sports. I schedule them activities. No education requirements though of course I would say yes if a nanny did effort. But I rely on specific activities. The older 2 don't have to be supervised all the time just picked up. This is really not a bad job. She actually gets more down time than caring for toddlers or an infant. I just am not sure range to get someone. Or just send them all to camp all summer. |
| 18-20 is adequate as long as you don't want a lot of extras and don't need a ton of experience -more glorified babysitter, less career nanny (which I think is just fine for the summer.) |
| I would probably pay $20-22/hr, although $18-20/hr isn't bad. As I see it, the older kids may not need constant supervision, but it sounds like you expect her to be responsible for them. If she is to be expected to be responsible for the safety of all four kids, then I think she should be paid a four kid rate. |
Not every parent has such low standards. |
For a summer babysitter I'd be looking more in the $12-15 range, $15 being for a teacher or something, but more hoping for the college student that will just watch them swim and throw a ball with them or play some video games. I think $12 is more than enough. |
For 4 children? $15/hour for a teacher? What planet do you live on? |
