given spring break off, kids go back Tuesday, Monday work day? RSS feed

nanny family left for vacation and won't be back until late Sunday, they gave me spring break off and I just realized Tuesday is next school day. Would you assume that means Monday is off day as well? I can't get a hold of them until Monday anyway, didn't want to bother them with this if its obvious.

I'm new to this family.

How would we know?

If parents need to work then so do you. Should have asked before.

Why would you have Monday off? The only reason you were off the previous week is because the family was out of town. Most jobs began on Monday. They probably assume you know this & wouldve told you already if Tuesday was your start day that week. If they're home Sunday what's hard to understand? & why would you be off because they don't go to school?? Are you their school teacher or nanny?

Common sense just isn't common anymore.

They don't have a cell phone?

I don't think it's obvious and I would definitely NOT assume you have the day off.

Email them or call.

I would assume you are having Monday off since they are getting home late Sunday + the kids don't return back to school until Tuesday.

However...I would be just like you....Wondering if my assumption was right.

I know it's probably water under the bridge now, but you should have verified this prior to them leaving. I certainly would have.

Since you did not, you are now in this tough situation.

So, I would contact them Monday morning and ask them if you are needed that day.

Be prepared to go in to work immediately if they say Yes.

Why the assumption that the nanny is NOT needed on a day that the kids are home from school???

Yep, I don't understand this either. FAR better to assume you will be working and get a pleasant surprise if they stay you're still off.

I would assume I'd be working. I don't have a job where I only work when school is in session. The family may need you to watch the kids while they get organized back from their trip! Plus don't the parents work??

Please text or email them to confirm Monday times! If you get another bonus day off, good for you!
