Do parents talk about and compare nannies at work? RSS feed

I've often wondered how much thought you give your nanny when you are working.

Thanks.

Yes, the working mothers in my office often talk (sometimes complain) about their nannies. We have the world's greatest nanny so I generally hold back a little so my co-workers don't feel bad!!!

I have never heard anyone talk about their nanny at work ever. Sometimes people may talk about their children, but usually people are working or talking about work.

Now, if I am having a playdate with another working mom, we may talk about nannies, but not usually to compare. Just the way we may talk about friends and relatives...updates on their lives (getting married, going to college), funny stories, etc.

No, other than to say how great she is if someone brings up in conversation.

I'm a nanny and know my bosses have talked about me at work because I've been told my multiple families that they have coworkers that would love me to babysit for them or they want me as their nanny when my jobs were ending with a few jobs and got a lot of jobs that way. I think it's an honor that they talk about me at work

Sure. Actually we talk about the challenges and different approaches to childcare - I'm in a small office so we have 5 folks w/ small children currently. One has a stay at home wife, two have kids in daycare, one has a nanny and one is trying to set up a nanny share.

What else is there to discuss?

Yes, of course, we do.

I'm not sure anyone at work knows I have a nanny. Many don't know I have kids.

Yes. You quickly learn who the other mothers are at work and everything regarding child-rearing is up for discussion including nannies. You can also learn a lot obout your co-workers from the disrespect they show their nannies and husbands in the wrk place. (ie - if a co-worker would trash them, she will trash you the second your back is turned).

Yes they do. My employer used to tell me she didn't talk much about me because she didn't want anyone asking me to babysit or trying to poach me. She said she was vague when people would complain about their nannies.

Yes. The other moms and I vent sometimes about minor frustrations just like we might do when talking about our kids or husbands. No big deal.

Yes, I trust my coworkers and neighbors nanny experiences and advice much more than a crazy anonymous posting board.

Plus I noticed that whenever my nanny makes a new nanny friend she asks for something crazy - like triple the gas money, tells us to remodel the basement, asks to get laid for driving them around on the side during the day.
