Estimated total for Nanny Share RSS feed

I know this has been asked thousands of times but can anyone tell me an estimated total cost with taxes per family a nanny share costs? Nanny wants $23 an hour (50 hours a week) and her net would be around $3500 an month, probably almost $5200 gross! Does this sound right? Two toddlers ?

Sounds fair to me.

That's what we pay for two 8 month olds (plus Metro benefits). It's a lot, but for a good nanny it's worth every penny.

You probably could find someone a couple of dollars cheaper, but not much. That's certainly not an unreasonable rate for two toddlers.

If she's good, you got yourself a real bargain.

That seems really high. Is that $23/hr for the first 40 hours and $34.50 for the last 10 hours? If so, that's really high. For a 50 hour week you should be able to easily find a great nanny for $18/hr base rate, time and a half after 40 hours.

I don't know what neighborhood you're in, but I'm in Hyattsville where $17/hr for a full-time nanny share gets you a lot of qualified, happy candidates.

Thank you - we are in DC. The number total number reflects 40 hours plus 10 hour of overtime (plus taxes). Just trying to get a feel on the total estimated amount we would pay each month per family and if $22/hour is about correct for two toddlers?

Wow. That seems like a lot for 50 hours. Even in DC. Way too much of it is outside of DC

I'm not sure how any of you can say it is too much given than you know nothing of this nanny's qualifications nor the specifics of OP's job. They could be asking for a decade of experience, with a masters degree and teaching experience, and someone who will watch the kids, cook family meals, and do laundry. You just don't know.

Just looking for a basic range for 50 hours a week for two toddlers, including all applicable taxes. It is true that we want someone with a lot of experience (not necessary a degree), cooks for the children (breakfast/lunch/snack), drives, and once a week laundry for the children.

I think $23 for two kids and ten years of experience is very reasonable.

Laundry in a share is a huge hassle, and most nannies do simple meal prep or serve something you've already set aside. I don't think your candidate is out of line at all. On the high end, yes, but I don't think that rate is that crazy, especially if its an average rate for all the OT.

Agree that laundry probably wouldn't be practical.
