We're thinking of hiring a nanny part time for 2 days a week for a total of 19 hours a week for our 5 month year old son. Our top candidate has 10 years of caregiver experience and is only looking for part time.
We're thinking of offering gross $18 an hour, guaranteed 19 hours a week, 3 paid vacation days, and 2 paid sick days. Is this reasonable? This is our first time doing any of this. thanks for input. |
| 3 paid vacation is too little. |
| Make it 4 days paid vacation. That would be equivalent to 2 weeks since she works 2 days per week. |
|
I would make it an even $350 gross.
Note $18 gross is totally fine, but I'm a weirdo about numbers. I second the 4 vacation days making it the equivalent of 2 weeks. I'd also give 3 sick days for much the same reason as the $350 plus an extra sick day is always good. But your offer looks good OP. |
| I also like to guarentee a certain number of paid holidays. I always thought it was weird to make it random. For two days a week, you could guarentee a day off Christmas and thanksgiving week, paid. |

Yes, I think your offer is reasonable.
I would accept it if I was looking for a part-time position. |
| $18 an hour is chicken scratch for 10 years of experience. Consider each year of experience as $1/hr and then add that to a base salary for a nanny starting out of $15/hr, so she deserves at least $25/hr. |
| She'll be netting about $300 for 2 days of work that's fine. |
This. Your rate is perfectly fine for the job. |
