Parents not honoring contract for guarantee hours. Did not got paid when parents took vacation RSS feed

I have been with a family for 3 months, the traveled overseas for a week, two weeks ago and refused to pay me my guaranteed hours. I left the job last week,ans started a new one today and needs to know what are my options. Can I just send them a letter? Is there any organisation I get advice from? The family lives in DC, is there a government organisation that can help me?
My pay was $900.00 a week for 10 hour days, taking care of twins.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bring it up with the parents that the contract you agreed on included guaranteed hours even if they don't need you.

If they refuse to agree to this, start looking for a new job ASAP, and quit the moment you get one. No need for you to honor any agreements about two weeks notice if they're not honoring agreements about pay.

Since I am sure money is an issue, I would contact Legal Aid at Georgetown Law School. They handle a lot of labor disputes as well as land lord disputes. If nothing else, they can get a law professor to contact your old family and threaten to sue in small claims court (since it is under $1,500).

Please don't just let this go - that is what the family is counting on you doing.

All you need to do is call your states labor board and open a case. Do
A Google search to find their phone number.

OP already started a new job. I think she is looking to recoup what she was owed in back pay.

Reread your contact. Are you sure your paid vacations kick in in less than 6 months? Are you sure your min guaranteed pay is $900 or whatever?

My contract was very specific about being guaranteed a minimum of pay $900.00 per week. They decided to take vacation. I was willing and ready to work. Therefore whether my vacation time had kicked is not important.

Send an email asking for the money by Friday. Let them know if you don't get it by Friday you will sue them in small claims. Document everything, keep everything for proof of none payment and proof you tried to get your money from them before you filed your claim
