Phone or email nanny offer?

Offering a nanny a position over the phone or through email? I hate the phone so would rather do it through email but is it standard to give offer details through a phone call?

How have you been communicating up to now?

I am fairly phone-phobic myself, but in this case I would want to be certain she received the offer and knew my time-line for responding. So, if you didn't already specify at the interview how you would contact her, I would phone/text (however you've been communicating) and tell her you've emailed her an offer with all of the details. Ask her to respond letting you know that she received it, and tell her how to contact you about any questions or concerns (phone or email).

We've been communicating mainly through email and text. My husband thinks its rude not to call her with the offer, but I personally would rather get an offer in an email so I can have time to think it over before responding.

I usually had people call to make their offered. I usually also ask for a written offer too just to be on thensafe side and to really read and understand the offer.

I did the same and texted her for verification that she got the email.

Job offers are usually given on the telephone but I can't imagine having an issue with receiving one in email.

I prefer to receive an offer in an email, that way I can be sure of the details of the offer, and I don't feel pressure to accept or decline right away.

I would offer by phone or in person and then follow up with an email so the offer is in writing.

You're going to have a very personal relationship with this person - so verbal communication is pretty important. And it needs to be a professional relationship also so putting everything clearly on paper is a good idea.

I think the best way would be via a phone call directly. This is how I have always received my nanny offers.

However, if you truly hate the telephone OP, then you can always use e-mail since many people check their e-mails through their cell phones anyway these days.
