I just moved here and don't know anyone well enough to feel comfortable "posing" for. I know I'll get more responses with a photograph. Did anyone use a professional photographer?

No. Just take one of yourself. Not a big deal.

While a professional shot would be nice, most employers are looking to see your race and if you have any facial tattoos or deformities. Sad, but true.

Also obesity is a common problem among nannies.

Mine was taken by my friends 10 yr old daughter. It just happened to be a very flattering pic so I decided on that one.

Very true. Employers want to make sure you are not obese, too.

PS = I would love a professional photo done someday. Does anyone have an suggestions for less expensive photographers?

There are many chubby nannies. My nanny happens to be overweight but that has not influenced how she does her job.

There are a lot of mommies who are incredibly fat as well.

Try college students majoring in Photography.

Just take a decent picture of yourself.

I'm an MB and I want to see that you're dressed appropriately and smiling. Do you have a kind face? Are you posed in too little clothing w/ some come hither look? Etc...

I don't care if you're overweight. I don't care if you have tattoos or pink hair or a nose ring.

I care if you look clean, presentable, friendly, and as though you're appropriately attired to hang around w/ kids.

Everything else we'll cover in emails or interviews.

You definitely don't need professional shots, but a little tripod or perching your camera on some books to get a bit more than arms length for the selfie might be worth doing.

I'm a MB. I prefer profiles that show the nanny with kids, outdoors, playing with pets, stuff like that. I need an active nanny, and I think those kinds of pictures show that she enjoys that kind of thing (as opposed to just tolerating it as part of the job).

Most places will not let you post a photograph of yourself with anyone else's child but your own. FYI

Do not use a professional photo because it will make families more leery.

A simple and casual photo is best because it will show the "real" you and it will show you in your best and natural light.

A professional photo will usually be touched up with special lighting and all that and families usually do not want to look at doctored up pictures when choosing a caregiver for their kids.

Not true. A good photographer or, better yet, student photographer will take your photo outdoors if you want and look very natural.
