| Nannies what do you think? Would you feel bad for looking for a job behind your current boss's back? |
|
Not a nanny, but why would you feel bad about this? The rest of the world doesn't wait until they're unemployed to look for their next gig. If you think you could earn a better salary elsewhere, or if you're just not loving the job and think you could get better treatment with another family, why would you hold back?
Now, if they only need you until the school year comes to an end and everyone knows that, it's probably worthwhile to stick it out and leave on good terms, with them as a reference you can use for years to come, but if it's indefinite, they probably realize there's a decent chance you aren't going to stick around until their kids are grown. |
That's how most grownups do it. |
| Never be off the clock. |
| I did this recently and am so much happier. The other family just wasn't a good fit and I didn't realize how depressing that was until I made the change. It really sucked giving notice, and I've never left a job due to bad fit before, but it needed to be done. Do what's right for both you and the kids. If they need a different nanny, then so be it. |

Well if you have an issue with your current family, my best advice would be to first try to see if you can work it out with them first.
Since a young child is involved, I would want to see if there were a chance that I could work out any issues first since I wouldn't want the child to be negatively affected by having a revolving door of nannies come in and out of his life. However if you think the issues are just not salvageable and you have at the very least made some attempt to rectify the problems, then by all means do what you have to do for you. In all fairness, your boss may be doing the exact same thing to you as you are to her. |

Everyone does this -- it is so much more sensible to seek a new job while you are employed.
No I don't think I would feel bad about doing it. If I were unhappy enough in my current position to seek another I think I would feel fine. |
