Am I being greedy?
I have been with a family for 4 months, and they left for a 2 week vacation yesterday. I was expecting at least half of a bonus, but all I got was bath salts and cheap candy in a tin. Granted I have 2 weeks over Christmas paid, but I could really use the money. I felt so disappointed when there wasn't a card. Just a generic holiday gift from a grocery store. My friend says to consider the 2 weeks paid vacation as the Christmas bonus. I'm trying to be positive, but it's really nagging at me. Am I being greedy? |
I would say you are being greedy, but a personal note could have helped the situation. Two weeks vacation is great. |
MB here. I think you're being greedy, yes. You haven't even worked half a year. Plus, you're checking the value of the gifts you got and deciding they're cheap. That's gross of you. |
Why do you deserve a bonus? What have you done that makes you worthy of extra money? You have worked for only 4 months, and you have been paid for 4 months. So out of 16 weeks of work you are getting 2 weeks paid while not having to work.
You are a horrible person and I hate that you are responsible for raising children. |
Chill out Crazy. Go have a drink. You are NOT a horrible person OP.. |
No, OP is not a horrible person, but she is greedy and ungrateful.
OP, you haven't been at this job long enough to earn a bonus, but they like you enough to give you a gift. Enjoy your two weeks off. |
Nanny here. I would have appreciate the gifts, whatever the cost. It's only been 4 months. You can't expect more and the 2 weeks are nice.
What did you give the kids for Xmas ? |
Nanny here and you really shouldn't expect a bonus unless you have been with the family for a year. A Christmas bonus is a merit bonus and you simply haven't earned it after only four months.
I would be thrilled with 2 weeks paid vacation!!! If you need the money, pick up a few sitting jobs over the holidays. |
Another MB here totally agreeing with this. |
I've been a nanny 13 years and have never received a bonus from a family that I've been with for less than a year. I've also NEVER had 2 full weeks of paid vacation at a time. Count your blessings that you have a job willing to give you that much time off, as they are rare. They totally should have included a card with a personal message but I think you need to let this go. If you need extra money pick up some babysitting work over the next few weeks. With no work and the holidays you should have no trouble finding done extra jobs. |
OP here, thank you for all your replies (except for the one who said I was a horrible person), and honest answers.
I admit that I did act greedy, and I'm glad to have a job at all. I've learned a lesson here. |
+1 I don't get a bonus and it bothers me. I spend my money on these kids for birthdays and Christmas. I go above and beyond and do an excellent job with the kids. I am paid well, but would appreciate a bonus. I don't even get extra time off. |
Op is this vacation part of the vacation in your contract or extra vacation? |
I think you should have been given something. This board is confusing. I remember reading that of you hadn't been with a family for a year it was a certain amount per month you had been with the family or something |
OP yes it was a little greedy, however it is hard to watch all the posts about holiday bonus money being given and not feel somewhat disappointed when you don't get a bonus yourself.
Take this as a lesson learned, and remember you have a great family, and two weeks off! |
